The Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, Councillor Reg Jenkins and Mayoress Teresa Jenkins have been undertaking visits to the winners of the Bridgend Business Forum Awards 2016. The Mayor wanted to pay a personal visit to the winners to congratulate them on their award success and also gain a better understanding of the types of businesses that operate in the county borough.

The Mayor and Mayoress had the opportunity to speak with the business owners about their current operations and future plans.

Amongst the companies visited to date were The Food Shed CIC based in Aberkenfig, winner of ‘Start-up Business of the Year’ and overall winner of ‘Bridgend Business of the Year 2016’. The Food Shed CIC is a successful social enterprise which has teamed-up with HMI Parc Prison to offer a meal delivery service to older and vulnerable people across Bridgend and neighbouring Neath Port Talbot. Not only supporting healthy and independent living but also providing training, qualifications and work experience to prisoners to help them with employment opportunities on release.

The Mayor and Mayoress also visited Smart Education Wales Ltd, winners of ‘Service Business of the Year’, Customised Sheet Metal Ltd, winners of ‘Manufacturing Business of the Year’, Wales Interactive Ltd winners of ‘Creative Industries Award’ and Datakom Ltd winner of ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2016!’

Councillor Reg Jenkins said: “I have met some excellent, interesting and diverse businesses over the last few weeks. It has been a pleasure to speak to so many astute and ambitious business people, who bring so much to our local communities.

“I am extremely impressed with the calibre of businesses operating in our county borough. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience. I’m looking forward to a few more visits before the end of the year and into 2017.”
